Brief History

Sterling Investment Bank (SIB) was incorporated in 1981 as a limited liability company, to provide investment and financial advisory services. In July 1994, SIB was licensed as a stockbroker by Kenya's Capital Markets Authority. In January 2005, SIB was re-launched, with new shareholders and under new management. Since then the company has registered robust growth. SIB plans to leverage on the experience and competence of its management team to offer quality Investment Banking and Stockbroking services to its institutional and retail clients.

SIB is driven by a Management team led by the company's directors who oversee seamless service to clients. The directors are involved in overseeing the execution of the business of the company. In the past, SIB has been involved in various floatations. Among these are Kenya Airways, Firestone (now Sameer Africa), NBK, KCB, CMC, ICDC, and IPS Serena - now TPS (EA). Additionally, indirectly, the company has been involved in valuation of state owned enterprises e.g. Kenya Tea Development Authority & Mount Kenya Textiles, quoted & unquoted companies, sponsoring initial public offerings (it was one of the Sponsoring Brokers for KCB in 1996), and most recently as a co-sponsor in the Safaricom IPO and the Co-operative Bank IPO, tax policy & analysis and tax modeling & forecasting.

Our mission is to offer reliable, efficient and quality financial services to all our clients whilst maintaining cordial contact with them and undertaking regular research to identify and address their investment needs.

Vision

SIB's vision is to be the leader in offering diversified financial services with a strong emphasis on quality of service and innovation in the region. SIB lays a strong emphasis on making critical decisions based on the relevant and timely information. SIB has also established itself as a research resource center, providing regular market updates and company analysis reports to its clients.

Services

i. Brokerage Services

Since its re-launch, SIB had established itself as a key market player in, buying and selling quoted shares on behalf of clients, Treasury bonds and Treasury bills placements, in-depth research on listed companies and non-discretionary Portfolio Management.

ii. Investment Banking Services

At the start of 2008 SIB converted into an investment bank, meaning it can now participate in raising capital, advise on corporate mergers and acquisitions, and securities trades and is putting in place measures to develop new products, in line with its new stature.

As a result, SIB will now be involved in helping companies and governments (or their agencies) raise money by issuing and selling securities in the capital markets (both equity and debt). SIB will also offer strategic advisory services for mergers, acquisitions, divestiture or other financial services for clients, such as the trading of derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange, commodity, and equity securities.
